Featured Photographer…. Valeria SpringDec. 19th

A few weeks back I had the pleasure of working with Valeria Spring the photographer behind The Red Balloon Photography based out of Seattle, WA.   I love how her images portray that feeling of nostalgia, it is almost as if you are looking through the old photo albums that  may sit timelessly on our  parents shelves waiting for the younger generation to open and get transported back to an era of glamour and grace.

When I asked Val to tell me a bit about herself and her photography, she delighted me with her response.  ” I live + love + create memories in Seattle, though my roots take me back to Buenos Aires, Argentina where I originally fell in love with photography. I’m a super passionate portrait photographer addicted to vintage ephemera and typically trapped inside a dreamy child-like story plot somewhere far far away.”

A few questions for our featured photographer:

1.When and why did you choose to become a photographer?

It was a little over a year after I finished high school and I was going to school to become an art director in advertising and I thought that photography would be a great way to complement that. Once I took that first class I was hooked, fell completely in love with it.

2. If you could choose to photograph any time period using the technology of today, when would that era be and why?

There are many different periods that I would LOVE to be able to photograph, but if I had to pick only one it would be the 50′s. First because that’s when my parents were kids and I’ve always loved listening to their stories about how growing up was for them and have always been so fascinated about how different those times were from my reality. And how awesome would it be to be able to see them as children and capturing them with my camera? I also love everythong from that period, from the clothes, colors, designs, etc., etc.

3. What was your most memorable photo shoot and why?

I have many memorable shoots but there’s one that holds a very special place in my heart. It was August 2010. My husband was out of town and the girls and I decided to gown to our alley to play and take pictures. The light was breathtaking, the girls were enjoying themselves, running, laughing, looking for special treasures, bugs, plants, etc. It was magical and I captured that magic in my camera and will treasure it for ever and I know they will too.

4. What is your favorite saying?

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” Dr. Seuss.

5. What do you consider to be the most important moment in your career?

Hmmm… I would say when I realized that I could shoot with my heart and follow my vision even when shooting for clients. That’s what helped me decide to jump in and start my business.

6. What tips would you give people on how to balance work with life?

I struggle with this a lot and haven’t found the perfect balance yet. It’s been the hardest part about running my own business and even more so since it’s from home.

Valeria said that when she is not daydreaming in wonderland, she is most certainly capturing magical moments on camera, hugging her two little ones, watching movies with hubby or Photoshop-ing like a crazy person!

Thank you Valeria!
